Becca and Billy found the perfect spot for their wedding: The Inn at Fernbrook Farms. Their special day in June was just lovely. As we arrived, we were greeted by some chickens and a feisty rooster who had wandered away from the barn. Although the weather was a bit overcast, it actually added to the charm of their outdoor ceremony under that massive tree in the field behind the inn.
Here are Becca’s thoughts and feelings on her wedding:
”I’ve always been drawn to the idea of a whimsical forest, with deep romantic colors and an enchanted fairy tale vibe. I’ve wanted that to be the theme of my wedding for as long as I can remember. (And my husband, who is the nicest man you’ll ever meet, was happy to oblige). He also liked the idea of doing something unique and not like your traditional country club wedding.
When we were searching for venues, we wanted something with a lush outdoor setting that we could turn into our very own whimsical forest. The Inn at Fernbrook Farm fit the bill perfectly. It’s a beautiful 230 acre working farm with hidden gardens and huge, ancient trees everywhere. And the inn at the farm (where we stayed with our families for the weekend) is charming and beyond adorable.
Once we locked in the venue, we worked with our florist (the Garden Party) to bring the whimsical forest dream to life. I wanted deep romantic colors: lush greens, burgundy, and dusty lavender. (Lavender is my favorite scent, so I was glad to be able to smell it in the bouquets all day!) I also wanted the bouquets to look a bit wild, like they were freshly picked from the forest. And I wanted lots of candles to add to the whimsy.
In Jewish culture, it’s traditional to get married under a Chuppah, or a canopy. I wanted to do a play on the Chuppah that was unique to us as a couple, and reflected the whimsical nature of our wedding. There was one tree at the Inn that we were drawn to from the start, and we knew we wanted to get married in front of that tree. We decided to do a twist on the traditional chuppah and have the tree draped with light, airy fabric that gently framed us while we were getting married. Seeing that tree draped with the gorgeous fabric for the first time while I walked down the aisle (and seeing my husband in front of it!) literally took my breath away. It honestly felt like we were in a fairy tale.
Other touches of the wedding included: butterflies that were released by our guests right after we got married, farm to table food from the inn, bridesmaid dresses that moved like air in different, dusty shades of lavender and blue (from Jenny Yoo), a naked cake with berries and whipped cream, an incredible band that rocked out & kept everyone on their feet all night (The White Rabbit), and a bonfire in the farm’s hearth with ‘smores and songs to end the night.
Lastly, the photographers that we chose (The Willinghams) reflected the vibe we were going for perfectly, and captured all the details and little moments to perfection. Their style is so dreamy and dramatic (and whimsical!) – and it was exactly the way we wanted our day captured and etched into our memories forever.”
